संत दादू जी और कोतवाल। Saint Dadu and Kotwal.

संत दादू जी एक जंगल में निवास करते थे। पास के शहर के लोग जंगल में ही उनका प्रवचन सुनने जाते थे। शहर कोतवाल को संत दादू जी से मिलने की इच्छा हुई तो वह घोड़े पर सवार होकर चल पड़े। जंगल के मार्ग पर चलते हुए काफ़ी समय हो चुका था, लेकिन आस पास कोई दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था।

कुछ दूर और चलने पर एक दुबला पतला व्यक्ति दिखा, जो झाडिय़ों को साफ कर रहा था। कोतवाल ने पूछा," ऐ भिखारी! क्या तूने संत दादू की कुटिया देखी हैं।" उस व्यक्ति ने कोई उत्तर नहीं दिया। कोतवाल के दोबारा पूछने पर भी कोई जवाब नहीं मिला। जिस पर कोतवाल को बहुत क्रोध की सीमा न रही। कोतवाल ने घोड़े को हाँकने वाले चाबुक से उस व्यक्ति की पिटाई कर दी। पिटाई के कारण उस व्यक्ति को रक्त बहने लगा, उसके बाद भी वह व्यक्ति कोई उत्तर नहीं दिया।

कोतवाल आगे बढ़ा, कुछ दूर जाने के बाद एक किसान मिला। उससे भी कोतवाल ने संत दादू जी के बारे में पूछा। किसान ने बताया कि "आज संत दादू का मौनव्रत हैं और वे इसी मार्ग में कुछ दूर पीछे ही झाडिय़ों को साफ कर रहे हैं।"

कोतवाल ने जैसे ही सुना कि, "संत दादू जी झाडिय़ों की सफाई कर रहे हैं, जिसे उसने कुछ देर पहले ही अपने चाबूक से पीटा हैं, वह कोई और नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे स्वयं दादू जी हैं। वह कोतवाल पश्चाताप में जलने लगा और दौड़ता हुआ, जाकर दादू जी के चरणों पर गिर पड़ा और क्षमा याचना करने लगा। संत दादू जी ने उसको शांत और प्रसन्न होकर उठाया तथा अपने गले लगा लिया।

दादू जी एक ऐसे ही उदार व्यक्तित्व के धनी संत थे। जो अपने मौन व्रत को टूटने नहीं दिया, उसके लिए चाहे जितना भी कष्ट उठाना पड़े। अपने व्रत के कारण किसी के दोष को भी क्षमा कर देते हैं।

Saint Dadu and Kotwal

Saint Dadu used to live in a forest. People from nearby cities used to listen to his discourse in the forest itself. When the city Kotwal desired to meet Saint Dadu, he rode on horseback. It had been a long time walking the path of the forest, but no one was visible around.

Walking a bit further, a thin skinny man was seen, who was cleaning the bushes.  Kotwal asked,"O beggar! Have you seen Saint Dadu's hut?" The person did not answer.  Kotwal did not get any answer even when asked again.  On which Kotwal did not have much anger. Kotwal beat the man with a whip that hooked the horse. Due to beating the person started bleeding, even after that the person did not give any answer.

Kotwal went ahead, found a farmer after going some distance.  Kotwal also asked him about Saint Dadu. The farmer told that "Today, Saint Dadu is silent and he is cleaning the bushes some distance behind in this path."

As soon as Kotwal heard that, "Saint Dadu is cleaning the bushes, which he has beaten with his chalk a while back, he is nobody else, but he himself is Dadu. He starts burning in repentance and  While running, he fell at Dadu's feet and started apologizing. Saint Dadu raised him calmly and pleased and embraced him.

Dadu ji was a rich saint of such a generous personality.  For those who did not let their silent fast break, whatever they may have to suffer. Because of his fast, he forgives anyone's fault.
