एक बार महाराजा रणजीत सिंह क़िले में बैठे हुए माला कर रहे  थे। उनके यहाँ अतिथि के रूप में आए फकीर अजीजुद्दीन भी वहां तसबीह लिए बैठे थे। महाराजा रणजीत सिंह मनके के अंदर की ओर माला फेर रहे थे, तो फकीर साहब इस्लाम परंपरा के अनुसार बाहर की ओर।
Once Maharaja Ranjit Singh was doing garland sitting in the fort. Fakir Azizuddin, who came as a guest to him, was also sitting there for the show. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was turning the bead inside the bead, then Faqir saheb was outward as per Islam tradition.

महाराजा ने फकीर अजीजुद्दीन मुश्किल में पड़े कि यदि अंदर की ओर कहते हैं तो बात धर्म के विरुद्ध होती हैं और बाहर कहने पर महाराजा की परंपरा पर चोट पहुँचती हैं। कुछ सोचकर वे बोले- "माला फेरने के दो उद्देश्य होते हैं- अपने दुर्गुणों को बाहर निकालना, और सद्गुणों को धारण करना।

The Maharaja found Fakir Azizuddin in trouble that if he says inwardly, then it is against religion and hurting the Maharaja's tradition when he says outside. Thinking something, he said- "There are two purposes of turning the garland - taking out your bad qualities, and wearing virtues.

महाराज! सदैव अच्छी योजनाए बनाते हैं और अच्छे कार्य करते हैं, इसलिए मनके अंदर की ओर फेरते हैं और मैं मन की ओर मलिनता निकालता हूँ, इसलिए मनके बाहर की ओर फेरता हूँ।,, उनके इस उत्तर ने वहाँ उपस्थित सभी लोगों को प्रसन्न कर दिया।
